For me, the new year brings a clean slate and a fresh start. It's about reflecting and rewarding yourself for the hard work you put in the past year and also taking the steps to plan for an exciting and productive year ahead. This year I am starting off with Clean Program's January Group Cleanse -a 21 day challenge! Don't worry this is not your average cleanse, let me tell you why. They don't promote weight loss or focus on dieting, instead it's a nutrient dense meal planning program to help kick start our lives.

The other day I wrote an article about my morning routine and how I feel that getting up at 5am, combined with my plant-based diet has made me so productive, healthier, and improved my overall way of life. I had so many of you reach out to me with questions and wanting more information about what my morning routine actually looks like so I thought I'd write this to provide you with some more info so you can get your mornings in check!
Hello friends! You all have been asking lately my trick to becoming an early morning person and how it's completely changed my life and routine, so I present to you the ultimate guide to how you can become a member of this super secret club too. Okay, it's not super secret. I became a member of the 5am club earlier this year in February, 2018 (February 25th to be exact). This decision was by far one of the best business decisions I have ever made in my life! I am more productive, I am more powerful, and I have more confidence in my work. Not to mention, I feel more energized, organized, healthy, and now have the time to get shit done. By the time it's 9am I am usually already done my work out, my emails, goal planning and my affirmations.
As I sit down at my table to eat a simple vegan Thai coconut holy basil noodle bowl, I think to myself: "How simple is this really?" I know the foods I eat aren't really that complicated to make, but does that make me naive? Have you ever put thought into where the ingredients you're adding into your recipes come from? As I stare at my bowl of steaming  coconut holy basil noodles I start to think about each ingredient. Those snap peas are local, limes are from Mexico, noodles are made in America, red curry paste and coconut milk from Asia. It's wild to think about all the places around the globe that you get food from without even realizing it.
Okay, let's talk about self-care. I know, I know, a buzz word that we're hearing everywhere these days. We're constantly being reminded how important self-care is, but how many of us are actually practicing it? I know I'm guilty for not taking enough care of myself, and I definitely need to learn to better balance my work and life so that I don't always crash hard and feel like my life is falling apart (okay, I know I'm being dramatic, but you know what I mean!). Self-care comes in all different shapes and sizes, and really it's about finding what works best for you. Whether it's shopping, cooking, reading, bathing, doing face masks, getting a haircut, sun tanning, a glass of wine, you get it, the list goes on. It does not mean you need to turn into a hippie, light sage, drink reishi, and charge your crystals. I mean, if that's what works for you, all the power to you, but self-care is going to be different based off what you enjoy.
I recently read an article over on Lee From America that inspired me to write something on a travellers worst nightmare - jet lag! I've experienced multiple times before, when hopping across different time zones, it's to be expected. However, what are some things you can do to help make it more tolerable? So when you arrive in a new and exciting destination you aren't stuck in bed? Lets talk about it... First off, what is jet lag exactly? Jet lag is a physiological condition that is caused by a disturbance in the body's circadian rhythm, which essentially is your internal clock that tells you when to be awake and when to be asleep. Usually jet lag occurs in people who have traveled across one or more time zones but can also affect people who do shift work or have an abnormal sleep pattern.
I'm super pumped about this new product I've been using which means I was eager to share it with you. Vital Proteins' Beauty Boost is the latest vegan supplement I've added to my daily routine, it's rich in Biotin (500% of your daily value) and Vitamin C (300% of your daily value) and it helps boost your body's natural production of collagen. On top of that, it boosts your B6 and Selnium which helps with your hair, skin and nails, plus did I say it's Vegan?!
The sad reality of most of our lives is that we sit, all day, at our desks, working away, and essentially letting our bodies slowly melt into a puddle in our office chairs. I'm sure you've heard it before that working at your desk all day could be killing you, and an estimated of 75-80% of Americans suffer from lower back pain due to our sitting-saturated lives. Prolonged sitting can also be linked to higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, and depression, as well as muscle and joint problems. Some studies even say that this epidemic can be more dangerous to your health than smoking.
First, things first.  I know what you're thinking: "Maria, this doesn't seem like your style? You preach self love and you tell people to accept themselves the way they are".  Sure, I do! I love everything about my message and all my beliefs, but when it comes down to it, I have to listen to my followers and help them. The number one question I am asked is: "How do you stay fit and do you have any tips to natural weight loss?"  Why would I ignore my peoples requests?  Who am I to deprive YOU of some really important information?
Injuries. We all have likely had one at some point in our lives. Or maybe we have been dealing with one for years of our lives. Weather your injury stems from sport, work, an accident or just every day life, they can seriously impact your life and day-to-day. Back when I was 14 years old, I was in a really bad car accident and thankfully I didn't sustain any injuries (at least not major ones) and three years ago Andrew and I were in a minor accident which left me with a shoulder injury that I still deal with today. Recently some of you asked for me to share my recovery, where I received therapy and what I did to help me on my road to recovery which I'm still on today.
