These delicious Bifteki patties are one of my favs for an easy meal. The beef is mixed with some simple ingredients and the patties are served with potatoes and topped with feta.
Bifteki is a recipe that is an authentic traditional Greek dish. It reminds me of home and my mom, and is so tasty. They are essentially baked beef patties. The beef is mixed with veggies like tomatoes and onions, breadcrumbs, and parsley. Consider it a Greek version of a burger patty. I served these with delicious potatoes and with crumbled feta on top.

🍲 Ingredients
Ground Beef – Ground beef is a great source of protein and a budget-friendly meat option for the whole family. Although you can use other types of ground meat in this recipe, beef is the most traditional.
Parsley – Fresh parsley will be best in this recipe as it packs the most flavor and adds some freshness to this recipe.
👩🍳 How to Make Bifteki
- Preheat the oven to 375F.
- Into a large mixing bowl add lemon juice, olive oil, mustard, oregano, pressed garlic cloves, and salt and whisk together to combine. Add the peeled potato wedges to the baking sheet or baking pan, drizzle over the lemon-mustard mixture, and toss to coat the potatoes. Add 1/2 cup water to the pan. Set aside.
- Prepare the burgers (Biftekia): In a mixing bowl combine the ground beef, grated onion, grated tomato and their juices, egg, breadcrumbs, olive oil, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix to fully combine. Divide the mixture into 8-10 portions and use your hands to form into burger-sized patties.

- Serve with feta, lemon wedges, and our easy tzatziki.
🪄 Tips and Tricks
- Eggs and breadcrumbs are your binders in this recipe to help the patties hold their shape
- If your meat is sticking to your hands too much when making the patties, wet them slightly under the tap before handling the meat
🗒 Substitutions
- Meat: Substitute the ground beef for leaner ground meat like turkey or chicken. You can also use ground lamb or pork. However, beef is the most traditional
- Egg: If you don’t eat eggs you can leave these out but it does help with making the meat bind together better so you may end up with crumbly patties
- Potatoes: You can make just the burger patties of this recipe and skip the potatoes, but to make it a full meal, the potatoes are highly recommended

👝 How to Store Leftovers
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. You can also freeze just the patties between wax paper in the freezer to have easy Greek burgers to pull out and add to salads, etc.
🤔 Common Questions
Bifteki means hamburger. This is a Greek version of your traditional hamburger.
The primary difference here is the way the meat is shaped. Keftedes are more like meatballs or logs, where biftekia are shaped like hamburger patties.

Y’all, I made this recipe for the first time for some Greek friends and everyone said it was an A+ and that we knocked it out of the park! The meat was tender and the potatoes were super flavorful. I followed the recipe exactly. Leftovers the next day were amazing as well. I will be making again and can’t wait to try other recipes. Thank you, Maria!
you are so sweet, chelsea! Thank you so much!
What kind of tomatoes are you using? I have one large heirloom tomato and wondering if I should just use one or if you used large beefsteak tomoatoes?
One lasrge heirloom will be fine hun!!
The best! Currently making this for the millionth time. The leftovers are also just as yummy! I like to make the befteki in bulk and freeze to help with meal prep. I likely cut the potatoes too thick but I just throw them in the oven first for an extra 20 minutes then put the meat on top.
Love that you follow your gut with the potaotes! Also love that you batch the bifteki in bulk and throw them in the freezer! You really are eating like a greek allll week long!!!!
My daughter has been saying “when am i going to get my old mom back? You haven’t cooked in so long!” I’m pregnant- and it has been really rough. As a Mediterranean girl myself (Sicilian) I love Greek Food- but have never really dabbled in cooking it. This recipe was such an easy introduction. I’ve made lots of tzatziki recipes, and this one is definitely my favorite. I have also never grated ingredients into meat before (apart from Parmesan cheese in meatballs) and the flavor and texture the tomato and onion give the meat is unreal! Can’t wait to make more. Hoping this can get me out of my pregnancy cooking funk!
oh my goodness!! This makes me so happy! Thank you so much hun! I am so glad you enjoyed this!
This was amazing and my house smells so good.
so glad you enjoyed this!!!!
I have literally never left a review of a recipe before, but I had to for this one. It is just that delicious and easy. I’ve never made a recipe that called for grated onion and grated tomato but I trusted the process, and I’m glad I did. Definitely recommend making the easy tzatziki recipe, too! I subbed cilantro for the parsley because that’s what I had and it came out delicious.
I’ll be printing this recipe, popping it in a page protector, and making it for Sunday suppers for years to come. Thank you!!
Thank you so much, Melanie! This truly makes me so happy. You should try my sheet pan chicken next time! It’s the lemon chicken and potatoes on my website!
I have made this twice in the past two weeks, and this recipe really was *so* good and filling, but not heavy at all. Was delicious leftover as well. It feels extra special when you can feel the love put into a dish, and this one doesn’t skimp on the love at all!
Yay!!! Thank you so much for the love, Corie!!!!
Made this and it was SO good. Made for really great meal prep/leftovers.
The lemon potatoes and the beef patties are a match made in heaven.
Thank you so much hunnie!!!
this was fantastic. Even my sister who is picky about ground beef patties loved it. I will be placed in our rotation.
yay! This makes me so happy, thank you hun!
The beef was flavorful but felt like something was missing and followed the recipe exactly. The potato wedges did not cook after one hour and were hard. I would consider par cooking next time. Tzatziki was delicious! Will def make again
Hey Gigi! How long did you cook the potatoes? Did you cut them small enough? We love the beef the way it is but if you think it was missing something always go with a tiny bit more salt and seasonings/spices!
