The War on Balance

Well hello everyone, I hope you are all fit and well. So today I surface some of the questions I am asked most, and the things that I do – everyday – in order, or in hopes to continue growing as a person, but especially as FoodByMaria.
Today I am putting myself on the line and telling all of you how I keep my life as balanced as possible, while life continues to throw obstacles, and personal health problems my way. I know this post will encourage all of you to continue following your dreams regardless of that struggles you are faced with on the way.
So now that I have got that out of the way I would like to start this personal story, and words of guidance with a quote I read earlier today that really resonated with me.
“Often we have to break down, to break through”
To me, this could not be more true. For years I was trying to find a light in a dark place of my life but it never appeared, or even flickered. It dawned on me that the reason no light was appearing was because I had nothing left in my soul to lead me through the darkness. I felt so lost, confused, and unmotivated to continue on the path I was “following”… everyday became a struggle in a sense of work-motivation, and getting through the day. It was not until I broke down, decided on a clean slate, and started fresh that I started seeing the real Maria slowly starting to shine back into my life.
The first thing I decided to do when I moved back to Canada was never go back into the work force again. Working in a chair, stuck in an office, and sitting still will never be the thing for me, but I had to learn this the hard way.
So this brings me to my first tip to staying balanced.
Do what makes you happy. Balance will come when you are constantly surrounding yourself with things, tasks and people that make your life a bright, and vibrant place. People in my life would always tell me “but one day you will be making loads of money doing Accounting”, yaa, sure, but where will I be? Money is nothing to me if I cannot be happy. Honestly, I never used to think this. I will be the first to tell you that when I was young I used to say that I would do anything to be big, rich and famous. Now, none of that matters and I have come to realize that if you love what you do, and are good at your passion then you will be rich with love, and one day, I promise, you will be rewarded with huge success.
Compete with yourself. To me, there is nothing more motivating or ass kicking than my own past. I am hands down one of the most competitive people I know, well until I met Andrew. So although some people may look at this as a negative, I do not. Being competitive with myself has done nothing but build me up, make me stronger, and help me grow. So next time you get down on yourself, and think about how everyone else is doing just think about how far you have come, and everything you have accomplished. This method really helps me avoid the ups and downs of life, and the negative effects of seeing how “well” everyone on social media is doing.

Cut the crap. To me balance means being yourself, and being honest with the people around you and the people in your life. Because of this I have been called rude, bitchy, aggressive and mean but I know what people mean when they say those things… they are just angry that I had the balls to say it first. Sorry, but I am the girl that says what people are thinking. So whether you like it or not I am not going to change. I would rather be known as a bitch, than a liar. Staying honest to myself really helps me stay grounded. This does not mean I walk around mistreating people, never – that is not my style – but I will definitely push the boundaries and make myself and others feel uncomfortable. Quite a lot.
Get the fuck up.
“Be the kind of woman when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says, oh crap she is up”
Ok so at this point I feel like I need to include a full discloser so you all don’t think I am the modern day Cruella De Vil or something. I have a pretty hard shell, but I am soft as hell on the inside.
Now that I got that out of the way let me tell you why getting the hell out of bed with a mission keeps me balanced. This might not work for all of you by the way, so just take this one with a grain of salt because I do find that my ability to never slow down or relax is one of the most controversial parts of my life. To me getting up with a mission does not have to mean getting up and being busy, but instead just getting up and enjoying life. Feeling grateful (I will write a post on my Gratitude Journal soon) for the roof above your head, the breakfast you are about to eat, and for the life you lead. You should never feel sorry for yourself and if you do try not to, because no matter how bad you think you have it, someone, somewhere is praying they had what you do. So get up, make a coffee, right your to do list, conquer your goals and get on with life. Trust me once you get into the swing of things, no task seems to big and virtually nothing will be able to stand in your way. I promise.
Set your own standards. In order for me to feel balanced I have to be in charge of my life. So since recently I have decided no one is going to ever take the wheel from me again. I am open to opinions, we all should be be, but I do not take peoples criticism, and intense judgements too seriously. By believing in yourself, and your self worth you develop a lot of balance in your life.

Remember fun. Laugh, make jokes, and surround yourself by people who make your belly ache from laughing so hard. Life is too short to take it too seriously, so at the end of all this madness just remember to find time for the people around you, and live a little!
Explore your passions. I really enjoy trying new things. Lately that obviously involves a lot of fitness and cooking techniques but it does the trick. When I had more time to myself I would try my best to get out, go for a hike, see a show or even just read a really good book. Do not make the mistake of forgetting the person who are and the things that shape the person you have become. The moment you loose your passions is the moment I fear you may have lost your light. So remember to do what you love, but push yourself out of those limits!
Be alone. Mornings are my favourite time of day because I get to watch the sun rise, write my to do lists, and sip on my coffee whilst listening to good music. This usually turns into a dance party but the point is that I spend time alone, organizing my life, every morning – this here guys is probably my biggest secret. And yes I do self motivate. I give myself speeches. Write crazy-ass-shit down. And ya, I pump myself up. Just do what you got to do to be happy with yourself, alone.
So I could go on and on about ways that I keep my life balanced but I won’t, I really hope you all connected to at least one point I made here. Do not be afraid to piss people off, feel uncomfortable or be unsure. You learn from your mistakes, your struggles help you grow, and your uncertainties keep you pushing. See the positive in everything, and try your best to motivate others to be the best versions of themselves!
I leave you with a few things to think about, and a few quotes to leave you inspired.
Trim the Bullshit.
Listen to your health, and your body.
Turn it off.
“Doubt Kills more dreams than failure ever will”
“Successful people never worry about what others are doing”
“You feel what you want it to be”
This next one is my favourite, and I think it is because over the past few months I am finally beginning to see why. If you could see me typing this right now then you would see a woman, crying, counting every blessing. I am so happy I went for it, decided to chase my dreams, and live life happy while doing what I love, and have been passionate about most my whole life. I want each and every one of you to follow your dreams. I am not promising you lots of sleep, and butterflies but I can guarantee you that even with the sleepless nights, numerous amounts of inner battles and struggles you will come out on top.
